Protecting Play workshop
Protecting Play workshop
Safeguarding play isn’t childish – it’s how we survive.
You’ve been told to be “strong” for too long, but your joy is non-negotiable. Let’s rewrite the script.
In this workshop, inspired by East African shield-making traditions, you’ll:
Craft a symbolic shield: Using raffia, banana fibre, and vibrant Ankara fabrics to embody boundaries.
Reclaim play as power: Neuroscience proves creativity builds resilience (Dr. Stuart Brown)
Nurture community: Contribute to a collective shield, because “sticks in a bundle are unbreakable.”
Why this works for Black women and Non-binary folk
We turn survival into celebration. This is for the daughters, mothers, aunts, and over-givers ready to protect their magic.
What others say
“Making my shield reminded me that my joy is worth fighting for.” – Sophie

Why me
As a Black woman raised to armour up, I spent years mistaking survival for strength, until I felt safe enough to rest and power of play.
Inspired by shields from my tribe, I created A Space for Resistance and Renewal, where we are invited to rest, safeguard our energy and dream.
This workshop isn’t about “self-care.” It’s about self-preservation. Through embroidery, breathwork, and storytelling, we’ll reclaim rest as rebellion and laughter as medicine. You deserve more than resilience. You deserve joy.
