I grew up in social housing block called Samuel Palmer court in South East London and it was in that maisonette I dreamed of becoming a full-time artist. Yesterday I started collaborating with the incredible Healing Justice London (HJL) and Walworth Living Room to support the community to express their health needs through collaborative artwork. And it so happens, Walworth Living Room is opposite where the *artist* Samuel Palmer was born! As I embark on this new arts health research project, I feel at home and excited to support the development of a community wellbeing framework.
Samuel Palmer, 1805 - 1881 at 42 Surrey Square, SE17 2JX.
I am delighted to be commissioned by Healing Justice London and Pembroke House to design and deliver the community health research project, "Weaving Interdependence", part of a "Healthy Exchange".
Calling Walworth and Southwark residents! Over a series of workshops, I will hold space for creative rest and sensory play with plant fibres, African textiles and collage as we share hopes for health, wellbeing, joy, safety and healing. Each week participants of all ages and abilities are welcome to drop in and create textile artworks in response to our discussions on wellbeing. I will then create a quilt to archive the health research and creative expression of Walworth residents.
