Mindful African Art workshops - Free to Be

Do new years resolutions make you gag and roll your eyes? Me too. I make art because it helps me figure out who I am, who I want to be. It’s both anxiety inducing to be unsure of who you are but therein lies the opportunity to explore and get to know yourself a bit better.

Collaging creates some calm for my mind to figure things out, with each piece of cloth or natural fibre I touch.

I do not know how to get started on producing the most ambitious ideas I have swirling around in my head right now. I know where I want to end up, but kinda frozen in overwhelm about moving forward.

I did alot of self exploration on my residency in Uganda, the country of my heritage, and I am curious to express my British Ugandan heritage in the company of people who are also figuring themselves out. I have so many gorgeous “African” prints, indigenous African textiles, natural fibres and soooo much more to share with you and I can’t wait to see how you create something as unique as your thumb print.

Join me in my gorgeously warm studio with a lake and woodland views in Abbey Wood. We will stretch, breathe, write and make together. I am so happy to open up my space for creative rest and exploration.

Art will help us figure out our lives. You don’t have to have the answer. We are not alone.

Let’s make life up together.

One free bursary space is reserved for a person, like me on a low income, please contact me on hello@birungikawooyaart.com if you would like to attend for free. I will prioritise people with identities need more protection, global majority, disabled, working class, queer and non-binary folk.
